Einstein’s Notes and similar businesses have made millions of dollars selling something they do not own.
On April 1st, 2008, Faulkner Press, L. L. C., filed a 63-page, 38-count federal civil complaint against Class Notes, L. L. C., d/b/a “Einstein’s Notes.”
Faulkner Press is prepared to prove that Einstein’s Notes has, over the last year, repeatedly copied material without permission from a.) Faulkner Press publications, b.) a website maintained by Professor Michael Moulton, and c.) Professor Moulton’s lectures delivered at the University of Florida.
In addition to defending the copyrights of the published material which Einstein’s has copied, the lawsuit aims to clarify one simple fact; professors own their own lectures.
Professor Moulton has published successfully through Faulkner Press for several years, and in this lawsuit Faulkner Press is proud to protect the rights of Professor Moulton and the rights of all professors. Should the District Court award money damages to Faulkner Press, Faulkner Press will be donating those monies to an organization of its choosing at the University of Florida.
Faulkner Press does not seek to put Einstein’s Notes out of business, but when this lawsuit is done, Faulkner Press believes that Einstein’s Notes and other similar businesses will have to ask the permission of a professor before repackaging and marketing that professor’s intellectual property for profit.
